Subject : balancing paper-backed veneer

I'm using paper-backed veneer for the first time and thought I could balance the panel with a sheet of kraft paper. Any thoughts on this? If so, where does one look for kraft paper? All I've been able to find so far is resin paper used to cover floors during construction. While this is thick and glues well, it absorbs moisture.
While we're at it, what glue do you like for paper-backed? I've gotten a few bubbles with yellow glue.
thanks, bill

bill, kraft paper is not the correct product to back your panel with, try using a product called "gator ply". it may go by some other names but it is used by the plastic laminate industry for backing on platic laminate counter tops. it's brown in color and about 0.05mm thick. traditional brown kraft paper is far to thin and you'll have substantial bleed thru.

Bill,

Craig is quite right about this and Gator Ply is a great product. If you find it difficult to locate you could also try Yorkite which is a similar product. Yellow glue is fine with paper backed veneers. You may want to consider urea resin glues as well. Some paper backed veneers dont absorb the glue so well and require a light coat rolled on both surfaces if you are using yellow glue. Not necessary with urea glues. Dont try this will raw veneers or you will have a mess, only glue the substrate.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil
