Greetings, I need to glue 4/4 bocote to 4/4 poplar(or some other secondary wood) to "build up" for an exposed edge on a nightstand. The bocote looks oily, are there any issues using unibond as the adhesive?? I can back up the adhesive with biscuits or screws. Adding to that, I'll be veneering over the glue line with a two ply veneer. This forum has helped me several times. Thanks for any insight. Mike J

Mike,

Unibond 800 works well with oily woods and will be fine for your application. A few biscuits wouldn't hurt. Unibond likes a sanded or sawn surface for solid wood gluing so rough up the surface a bit. Two ply over solid edging is the way to go.

Sincerely

Thanks for the info. I think I'll use hard maple as the secondary wood, biscuits also. Appreciate the tip on the edging inlay trick on the earlier post. I don't do this veneering stuff every day so its nice to be guided by a reliable source - such as this forum. Cheers Mike J
