I am faced with the prospect of reskinning a number of commercial doors as part of a hotel renovation project. This includes two sets of 4'-0" x 10'-0" ballroom doors(one face only) and a number of 3'-0" x 7'0" pairs. I plan on using 10 mil paperbacked red oak veneer. I plan on stripping all hardware from doors, then repair all surfaces (ie. splits, cracks, gouges). I am new to vacuum pressing so I am unsure of a few things. If the door is already machined for hardware will I have problems with the veneer pulling into these places. Such as hinge mortises, through bolt holes for door closers, Holes for door knobs and handles, etc.? The edges of the doors will remain the same. do I need to protect the edges or even the back side of the door from glue squeeze out? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
