Subject : How Flat Must the Veneer Be?

I'm relatively new to veneering and am building several conference tables. I've purchased wide, long waterfall bubinga veneer for the tops, and it seems pretty flat to me. However, it's not completely flat, and I'm wondering just how flat it needs to be to get a good result when pressed. Thanks for your help.

Mike,

It depends a fair amount on how large the panel is. The larger the panel the flatter the veneer needs to be. Since you mention a conference table then it will have to be resonably flat. The problem is I can't show you what resonably flat looks like on this forum. Its something you get a feel for. One rule I do use is this. If the veneer requires you to pull the joint together ever couple of inches just to get a tight seam then it probably will need flattening. This isnt a hard rule Im just trying to give you some parameters to loosely go by since I cant do it visually.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil

Thanks, Darryl. A good rule of thumb was exactly what I hoped to find.
