Subject : Veneering roundover using two step method from video

Daryl,

I just received my compact 100 and videos last week. Thanks for the great service.

I am going to try veneering a 3/4" roundover on a 1.5" thick panel using the two step method you demonstrate on your advanced video for the bullnose and have a couple questions.

1. Isn't squeeze-out a problem? By this I mean when you do the first glue up doesn't the cured squeeze-out leave lumps under the veneer when you actually do the second step to glue the roundover?

2. Since I am doing a roundover and not a bullnose as you did in the video, can I just rely on the bag to hold the veneer against the roundover as apposed to using tape as you did in the video?

Thanks for any help.

Kind regards,

Dennis

Dennis,

Lumps in the veneer wont happen with the two step process provided its done correctly. Its important to stop the first glue application at least 1/2" back from the beginning of the round over. Because this pressing is done face down on a caul the glue is leveled out just as if it was a flat panel, which in fact it is. The glue squeeze out line will not migrate more 1/8" so it will not reach the round over where it could cause problems.

You do not need to tape the veneer since its a round over not a bullnose. I would also skip hanging the panel off the edge of the platen like it shows in the video. Just block it up on a 1" piece of styrofoam so the bag gets good pressure at the bottom of the round over.

Sincerely
