If laying out an oval or eliptical starburst, should one use equal angle segments like for a circle, or have equal widths at the outer edge of the pattern? Thanks.

If you draw the two options with equal numbers of lines within a long, narrow elipse, you'll see that the sections derived from regular angles get relatively large as they near the long axis. Sections produced by equal segments of the perimeter look more balanced.
So I would choose the latter option.

Thanks Thomas. That was my intuition but it is reassuring to get feedback from the experts. Glad I bought a 10" compass so I can step off large sections of an elipse.
