I've been veneering bedroom doors with 1/8 skins and using formica adhesive. Last time I went back to the hardware store all they had wasa water base adhesive that replaced it. I put my skins on and some of the edges did not take. How do I get adhestive under the door skins to make sure they won't come apart somewhere down the road? Marty

If you are trying to save a door you have already veneered, you can use a syringe to lay a bead of adhesive (I use the urea resin) around the edge of the door. If you do enough to have good squeeze out, it should go down well after you put it back in the bag. I do this, then use tape just to hold the edges down until the bag presses.

I am familiar with the problem that you are experiencing with the latex based contact adhesive. I can offer you a few possibilities:1) Switch back to a solvent based adhesive, roller grade ought to be available at local cabinet supply shops.2) You could use the same adhesive for the field of the door, leaving a border around the edge of the door. Brush some wood glue around the edge, and then lay up your panels. A few 2x4's and pipe clamps ought to provide you with a satisfactory glue joint around the perimeter.Hope one of these tips helps you.: I've been veneering bedroom doors with 1/8 skins and using formica : adhesive.
