I find that moistening the tape is risky and takes too long. When theveneer gets moists, it quite often peels of the substate. If the glueis waterproof, then only a layer of veneer might come. This is happens quite often a corner junctions, or if the grain is at an angle such aswhen you edgeband a panel;.I have found that a cabinet scraper is the best and fastest way. Use a cabinet scraper such as the Stanley #80 which has two handles to remove thetape first. Then, go over the whole surface slowly and evenly to removeThe glue bleed through. This gives you a nice even surface which can now be sanded. The tricky corners and small pieces stuck in the grain shouldbe done with a hand scraper (square metal blade). I have recently scraped 3 desktops 30"x60" on bothe sides. With this methodit takes less than an hour per panel to get ready for sanding, and not onebit of venneer damaged. Note: when you glue the veneer, always use more glue then you think isrequired. It is easier to scrape bleed through than to try to glue backsome pocket area which did not have quite enough glue.
