Dear Doug,If your way worked good for you and the veneer is well adhered with no gaps at the veneer seams, then I would say your way is fine.Although I have used the iron on technique, I do find that sometimes my veneer joints tend to open up under the extreme heat of an iron, especially on short grain. One method I have used and liked a lot, is to cross band the edging veneer with another piece of the same species at 90 degrees. after I have laid this up I clamp it on the circular table edge, one half at a time using a sheet of mdf or plywood that I swung a circle with my router the exact radius of my table top plus the edge veneer thickness. If the radius was cut cleanly it fits very nicely when clamped up with bar clamps. Probably more work than your method but I really like the bond strength with this technique.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I just finished doing a 12 piece star/fan 36" diameter table and to : veneer the outside 1.75" edge, I did about 36" at a time. I cut : sections of veneer with the grain running vertical, taped them : together, and ironed them on using titebond II. Worked pretty good. : the last 2" length I sanded to fit tight and ironed in.: My question is, is there a better way?
