I would like to make some panels for the back of by cabinets. I was thinking of using very cheep Luan which I believe is only 1/8-1/4 inch thinc as opposed to usual substrate of MDF at 3/4 inch. As long as I veneer both sides any problem going so thin?

As long : as I veneer both sides any problem going so thin? Why not use 1/8" or 1/4" MDF ? which is cheaper than Luaun likey to be flatter too! Having done that for several display cases . I used 1/4" with a full 1/16th " veneer front & back used the Uni-Bond 800 , was rigid & very flat . I'm sure the luan would work as you add laminations of veneer to each face . ( BTW used Uni-Bond with acrylic dyes the other day w/ the blonde catalyst, and it dyes easily (for some Purple Heart)).

I recently made panels 13" X 18" with satinwood for the 'show' face and mahogany as the backside balance. -t
