Darryl thanks for replying so quickly, from what you've said I think the problem was not enough glue as there was no bleedthru inthe burr area.many thanks Barry: Dear Barry,: There could be a number of reason you had failure in the burl area, but without asking you: a number of questions I can only speculate. : It is true that the burl veneer may have needed a little more glue than the other veneer,: but if you had any bleed thru of glue in the burl you were fine. Did you have a cover sheet: between the bag and veneer? if you did, it should have been at least 1/2" thick when veneering: burl. Also, there could have been a slight thickness variation between the two kinds of veneer: which could have caused the problem. Its important to use 1/32" or 1/16" sheet rubber: between the veneer and cover sheet in these type of situations. If you would like to talk: with me in more detail about this project you can call me anytime at 207-725-0935.: Sincerely: Darryl Keil: : : I've just made a coffee table of ripple maple with a burr maple : : centre panel. All went well with the ripple but the burr has 3 or 4 : : small bubbles (lifts). I spread the glue evenly all over and used a : : vacuum bag. Does burr need more glue than standard veneer?: : thanks in advance barry.
