Dear Glen,Got your fax, I understand what your doing much better. I think you would be fine using regularwood screw, especially since you will have a full 1 1/2" table top to screw into. If you wantan even more secure fastening system, I would recommend brass or metal threaded insertsinto the table top, using machine screw to attach to base legs to the top. This will also allowfor easy disassembly.Sincerely Darryl Keil: Dear Glen: You can definately edge glue solid wood to MDF. If it is fairly thin strip, like 1/4", you can just butt glue : it. If the solid is wide, such as 3'', I would spline it on. Same goes for MDF to MDF, I would : spline it or use buiscuts. MDF to MDF just butt glued would not hold well without some kind of: a joint between the two.: : As far as adding a piece of MDF to the underside of the table top, I would screw it but not glue: it. The un-veneeered MDF will react differently to seasonal humidity changes than the veneered: top, causing the sandwich to warp. If it is screwed but not glue there will be less of a chance: for this to happen. Can you just beef up the apron that holds to top on instead? That is assuming: you have an apron under the top.: As far as jointing the legs, I need a bit more understanding of how the legs tie into the table: top or apron before I can recommend a fastener.: : sincerely: Darryl Keil: : Can you edge glue MDF to itself, also can you edge glue solid wood to : : MDF? It would be a large glue up,so I would need some working : : time, what type of glue do you reccomend? : : : : If I use pre-veneered 3/4" MDF for a table top and want to increase : : the thickness and strength, can I glue and screw another sheet of 3/4" : : non-veneered MDF underneath or should it be veneered also? : : : : Do I use a specific type of screw to join them, also when attaching : : legs should I use some kind of insert? Please describe and a : : purchasing source would be appreciated. I thank you for your replies. : : : :
