Subject : Simple Veneering Question (I Hope)

I am attempting my first veneered box by veneering figured mahogany over some second rate mahogany. Should the sides or the edges of the substrate be veneered first?

Joel, I generally veneer the face of my panels first because I always make them oversize and trim them down later. John.
