Mark,As Carl suggests, you may want to consider more contemporary methods. Your post did not sound like you knew the process of using hot hide glue which is what a veneer hammer is used with. This is not a easy process. If a veneer hammer is still what you want, go to www.constantines.com, they have them.SincerelyDarryl Keil: Are you doing period reproductions?: Since no experts took this one on, I'll offer my 2 cents.: It's an obsolete tool, for an obsolete method. I suppose there is utility in using one, if one is interested in period restoration, using period techniques. Used for application of hide glue.: I suggest looking into modern glues and tools. Your results will be much more satisfying.
