I have a flitch (complete log) of Cerejeira Crotch veneer that's been stored away for about 18 years. It's compressed/banded, sealed in plastic and crated. And it hasn't been subjected to extremes of temperature or humidity.I was told the veneer may have deteriorated over time. Is this likely, or even possible?

Barry,

I started my veneer hobby by buying out a retired woodworkers stash. It was pre-ebay days. I think I got a good deal. Nothing was less than 40 years old. I have had no problems with it. Matter of fact, one of the surprises in the stack was some curly cherry. I made it into a chest of drawers, and it made it into Fine Woodworking Current Work article.

As long as it did not sit in extreme moisture and grow rot, wood is wood and should be ok.

Barry,
Sometimes old veneer seems to become brittle, but I've never heard of veneer that was unusable. It's wood, whether very thin or thick.
Good Luck
