Dan,I find you will always get some bleed through up the center of mahogany crotch as that area is very open grained. My rule on any open grain wood is a just a little glue spotting here and there. What this says, is that there was enough glue at the glue line plus a little extra, that's what bleeds through. A little extra bleed through is fine as long as the entire surface isnt glazed. Why you had such variation in bleed through I cant say without having a conversation about it. I do recommend a foam roller for spreading glue, it makes for a very uniform glue line and is quite controllable. As far as you panels with little or no bleed through, I would wipe them down with water. The water will cause any unglued areas to swell and bubble up. If no bubble show up, your fine.SincerelyDarryl Keil : : As a novice veneer'er I'm still trying to get a feel for the correct : : amount of glue (Unibond 800) to use and what is the 'correct' amount : : of bleed-through. My most recent experience was with four (21"x27"): : mahogany crotch panels. What perplexes me is two out of the four : : panels I did had significant bleed-through, one with a big fairly : : solid patch in the middle. The other two of the four sheets had : : little or no bleed-through at all and seem to have adhered properly.: This is a continuation of the above post that was posted prematurely when I pressed the wrong button.: As alittle sidebar to this story. The Mahogany crotch veneer I was using here had some significant waves in it and the vacuum press flattened it perfectly without going to the extra work of using the flattening solution.: It's the above mentioned wavyness that adds to my confusion. If the two panels with virtually no bleed-through at all had insufficient adhesive I would have thought for sure that they would have 'sprung' off the substrate. Does thing mean that they two with alot of bleed through had too much Unibond? Hmmmmm.... questions, questions.: You can see the panel with no bleed through here:: http://members.rogers.com/dantwomey1/images/nobleed.jpg: You can see the panel with some bleed through here:: http://members.rogers.com/dantwomey1/images/somebleed.jpg: Regards,: Dan:
