Subject : Platten and Bag not staying flat

We are veneering flat 5/8" panels and the platten is bending away from the table. Over the 8' it is 3/8" off the table when it reaches full vacuum. I have the pump set at 18 Hg. Have the bag on a flat table. Any ideas on why this is happening?

Depending on how thick, wide, and long your panel is compared to the bag size, you can get pulling on the top side of the bag which can create what you are experiencing. You can do a couple of things, reduce your platen size so the bag has more slack, and clamp the corners of your platen to the table its sitting on before you turn on the vacuum. Once the vacuum is up to full pressure you can probably remove the clamps and your panel will stay flat.
