Subject : Compact 100 pump getting weaker

Daryl - I've gotten a lot of use out of my Compact 100 pump, but it seems to be aging. It is taking longer and longer to evacuate the bag. I'm sometimes waiting a full 10 minutes to achieve a reasonable vacuum. If I run it long enough it will still pull and maintain close to 25 on the gauge, but it gets there very slowly. The same thing happens when I switch bags.

Is this expected wear and tear on the pump, or might there be something easily fixable?

I would check the reed valves to be sure they are not clogged. Do this by taking off the head of the unit and then taking off the next level. There is a reed valves on both sides. A small screw holds them on. Be careful not to bend them or they will not lay flat after you reinstall them.

Also clean the filter element in the filter jar to be sure that is not slowing down the air flow. When the filter element is out and the clear bowl is removed blow compressed air through the hose from both ends.
