Some great crotch mahog is awaiting flattening with the homebrew mix. After painting on both sides of each leaf I will be making a sandwich for the vacuum press using newsprint, fiberglas window screen and the veneer.

If there are any splits, my first thought was to secure with solid veneer tape on one side, but now I'm wondering if the veneer tape would be really difficult to remove after flattening, due to the glue content in the solution.

I have never found that splits can be contained when using a flattening solution. I just accept the splits and work around them. Even if you manage to close them up during flattening they alway open up on me when the veneer is dry again.
