I'm a woodturner, that cuts green wood and hen rough cuts to 1" thick bowls for drying. The general rule of thumb is to place it in a bag for 6-12 months then it is dry enough to turn.

Is there a way to use a vacuum press to pull the moisture out of the bowl faster?

I use bagging to slow down the drying rate on my once turned bowls, so the wood has time to warp in response to moisture loss rather than crack. I would expect a more rapid moisture loss rate to lead to more cracking, but I don't make twice turned bowls.
