Subject : can I glue veneer perpendicular to solid wood?

Ok, I know this is usually a bad idea, but this is what I have. I am building a jewelry box that will have narrow solid wood drawers. Grain direction of solid drawer fronts will be horizontal in order to dovetail together. I am going to have zebrawood veneer two ply running vertical with marquetry applied to drawer fronts. substrate will probably be quartered mahogany. glue will be rigid setting. The widest drawer is only 3", so do you think I will have problems with checking over long term?

thanks

Normally its not such a good idea but your panel is so small, and the fact the you're gluing to quartered mahogany makes the expansion/contraction issues rather small. I think you'll be fine.
