So I'm sure that there is a perfectly good reason not to do this but...

Can I use the backer that my HPL supplier sells in place of Yorkite or Gatorply? I want to use it in two places: 1) as a crossband under veneer and 2) in a hairy bent lamination.

Let the name calling begin...

If you're talking about what's commonly called cabinet liner there is definitely nothing wrong with that product as a backer. The problem is you can't gluten both sides of it so you can't put veneer on top.
