Subject : Evacunet: substitute for grooved platen?

Today I was asked if a sheet of evacunet mesh could replace the grooved platen under the bottom caul. Any thoughts? Bottom caul probably would have to be 1/2 to 3/4" thick to provide flat reference surface.

Don,

Yes, Evacunet bleeder mesh can replace the platen, but for two reasons the platen is the better bet. One, the grooves in the platen get the air down to the exit hole faster and more efficiently. Second the platen provides a smooth rigid surface to slide your panels in and out on top of, something the flexible netting does not do. Although Evacunet works fine I only use it when the platen isn't practical.
