If you are lucky, the veneers were attached with hide glue. It is the only glue to which fresh hot hide glue will stick to old hide glue.
If the piece was made new 65 years ago it may be during the time when modern glues were replacing hot hide glue.
Warm water will reactivate dried hide glue with several light applications. If there is some exposed dried glue you can try wiping with a wet q-tip or brush a couple times a minute for say 5 minutes (all relative) and see if the glue becomes sticky again. Your work would just be beginning, but that would be the best circumstance, based on what I have read.
Let us know if the adhesive seems to be hide glue.
