I am laying up a ****pit table with some 1/42" teak veneer on a substrate of 3/4" PVC structural foam (Divinicell) covered in epoxy/fiberglass. Where can I get some inexpensive backing veneer? I have plenty of 1/42 walnut but I would prefer not to use it on a surface nobody will see. Do I really need a balancing veneer with a composite substrate?

Secondary question? What glue would you use? The finish will be several coats of urethane marine varnish but this table will be subjected to rain, seawater splash and sun.

Glenn,

I dont think, in this case, you need a backer veneer. First, because your substrate is basically all plastic and second, because the only glue you can practically use is epoxy, which has absolutely no shrinkage. The only thing you didnt say was how big the table was. As long as its not a large table you'll be fine with no backer.
