Subject : pump only pulls to 15HG

I have a VacuPress pump that is about 16 year old. Recently, while using it in humid weather the pump produced some rust and froze up. I took the housing off the front of the pump, cleaned things up and got it working again.

However, now the maximum vacuum it will pull is 15HG. If I set the switch control higher, it just runs continuously even when I put my finger over the end of the brass ferrule on the intake hose. I have double checked and even taped all hose connections, but 15HG is the best I can get.

Any suggestions on better performance?

Louis,

There are a number of possibilities. One, the vanes may have gotten extra worn from the corrosion and cant reach the vacuum levels it used to. May be time for new vanes. Also, one of the four vanes may be retracted up into the rotor, so you are only running on three vanes. There could also be a leak within the pump somewhere effecting the level of vacuum you can reach.

I think a phone call would probably be more productive in sleuthing out the problem. Its hard to get enough information through a forum or email to really understand whats going on. A dialog will get to the bottom of it much quicker.
