This isn't a question but a comment. For a few years now I have tried to moisten then scrape off veneer tape. Problem was the moisture would often loosen the veneer. I noticed in Silas Kopf's marquetry video that he doesn't use water, just scrapes and sands which is what I'm doing now. Problerm solved. I highly recomend the Kopf cd.

Seems to me that if that little bit of water is loosening the veneer that you may have a more serious problem. I follow Darryl's procedure now of thoroughly wiping the veneer surface with water after pressing to find any areas that didn't adhere properly. Water should not be able to lift the veneer off the substrate. Even when using PVA on veneered edges, I wipe down with water to find any bubbles -- much easier to fix at this point than when finish is on.

As far as removing the tape, I've tried both wet and dry methods and prefer removing the tape with water as I find it easier and faster.
