Subject : Proper size bag for a 4x7 table top and bag storage

Hi all,

I'm brand new to this forum. I've got my wife talked into me buying a veneer press because of some beautiful Elm crotch wood I just bought. I'm going to build a table that is approximately 7x4 feet. I couldn't find anything specific about bag sizing to product. What size should I be getting and should I also get a smaller bag or will whatever larger bag you recommend also work for smaller projects?
Also, I'm in the process of designing my assembly/outfeed/bending table and am thinking about storage for the bag/bags. Are they just rolled up, folded, or what is the best method of storage for the longevity of the veneer bags? Thanks for any help. I look forward to learning a lot from this forum!!

Vic,

In my opinion a 4x8 capacity bag is an all around good size. You really only have to unroll the amount of bag you are using so smaller work can be done just fine in a 8' capacity bag. Its really your platen, the 3/4" board that goes in the bag with grooves, that determines the pressing size you can work with. I think its useful to have a few different sized platens.

The best place for a bag when not in use is rolled up and put back in the box.
