Any thoughts on buying paper backed veneers? I am trying to cut costs and need some cherry for inside surfaces. I am having the face veneers laid up by Sieling & Jones. Also any thoughts pro or con on paper backed veneers.

Tim,

I think for many applications paper backed veneers are great. Much less work, no seaming, taping, or sanding, and no bleed through to deal with. Especially for interior surfaces paper backed makes perfect sense. Clearly you dont have the matching control you do with raw veneer but in this situation it doesn't seem that is so important.

The only thing that strikes me is about balance. Raw and paper backed veneers on opposite sides of the same panel will not be as balanced as raw to raw or backed to backed. For fixed panel work I don't think its that critical but for doors, especially larger ones you may get some warping, and that could show at the reveals.
