Subject : Vacuum video 2 ply veneer question

Two questions I have from the video...
The under veneer in the pre veneered two ply technique.. Do you concern yourself with the species, or more concerned with a close color...
And the veneer tape on the bottom sheet.. I imagine that is down and then do you remove it before adding to the lamination ?

What you use as the backer ply is not that critical. I use either a backer grade mahogany or poplar. I'm more interested in something wide so there are less seams to tape up.

I use the three hole tape on the outside of the backer veneer and just bury it against the substrate when I lay up the two ply.
