Hi,
I have an older Gast model 1065 rotary vane pump, according to Gast it is rated at 6.5 cfm. The inlet and outlet are sized for 1/2" pipe.. I currently have 1/4 pipe and hose running from the pump through the controls to the bag. My question is if I went to 1/2" on all this would I see better performance and is there a check valve available in this size. It would be nice to be able to evacuate the bag quicker when using bending forms.

Thomas,

You would probably only see a small increase, depends on your current pipe/hose configuration. If your pipe is 1/4" then the hose that would go with it should be 3/8". This configuration yields about 5cfm or a little better, depending on how many fittings you have in line. To get the extra 1.5cfm you would step up to 3/8" pipe and 1/2" hose.

I would be surprised if the pipe on your pump is 1/2" (pipe is not sized by the actual hole size). I suspect its 3/8" as our 10cfm pump runs 3/8" pipe.

We do have a back check valve for 1/2" hose if you want to go this route.

Darryl
