When using the honeycomb, I believe that the edging should be "slightly" smaller than the honeycomb thickness, but how "slightly" is ideal and acceptable? For example, with a 1" thick honeycomb, can the edging be .90"? How close to the honeycomb thickness does the edging need to be?

Thanks, Arthur Allen.

Arthur,

.90 would be a little too much. At most 1/64, really just a whisker. I prefer to handle it like this.

Only one side is usually the show face. Put this side down against the 3/4" platen. If there is anything thickness variation it will show up on the up side, the side against the bag. Since this is usually the back of a door or the underside of the table any slight visual variation wont really be seen. The thickness of your skins will also determine how critical this is. 1/8" skins will show up thickness variations somewhat easily where 1/2" or greater skins should show nothing. Again putting the show side down makes this a non issue.

Personally I make my edging the same thickness as the honeycomb. A lot of times Im using MDF as my edging which is pretty much right at the thickness its suppose to be so I just rip it up without any surface machining.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil
