I just replaced my 10+ year old 30 mil vinyl bag. Before buying a new bag, I made one last futile effort to find and repair leaks. I discovered at least 6 holes on the bottom of the bag caused by pieces of dried glue that had embedded and rubbed through. The resulting pin holes are very hard to find. There doesn’t appear to be any way to get these glue pieces out short of crawling into the bag (see “murder by vacuum press” thread). My remedy before setting up the replacement bag was to lay down a 48” x 10’ x 1/8” sheet of neoprene under the bag (www.rubbercal.com). This isn’t a cheap solution ($120) and one can certainly question the economics but I sure enjoy not hearing my pump cycling

Tom,

First, I have to say that 10 years out of a vinyl bag is unbelievably good. Very few folks get that much longevity.

Having something get ground between the bag and table can easily happen which is why your idea is a good thing. Clearly your choice is a quality one. An old blanket does the trick and even a sheet of cardboard works pretty well.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil
