I just recently purchased a frame press & set it up ...last thing to do is to cut the grid board or bottom platen?? in instructions it says 1/4"-3/8" mdf.
can I ude 1/2" mdf? does the bottom board have to be contact cemented down? or can I use double sided tape? Last when I glue up should there be a bottom board & top board on top of my veneer panel & if so what thickness should this be?
please advise

Lance,

You can use 1/2" mdf if you wish and double sticky tape is fine.

You should have a caul on both side. The one on the bottom to keep the glue from sensing the grooves in the grid board and migrating to them. The one on the top to make sure the veneer has a leveling pressure. On most veneer 1/8", 1/4" cauls are fine. On ornery buckled veneers I suggest 1/2" cauls.
