Subject : Unibond open time?

Hi to all. I'm wondering about the open time for Unibond. We're about to do a multiple layer lamination for a handrail and a stair stringer that will take a bit of time to put together. So, the glue will get spred then the next lam will be placed on it, and on and on. Is the open time measured only when the glue is exposed to direct air? Once in the stack, can I go by pot life of the glue? Thanks for any info.

Jeff,

Go by the pot life. If you want the longest open time start with the glue very cold and pour out the mixed glue in a shallow pan. Colder the Unibond 800 the more the catalization is arrested. Dont worry about the glue being colder that the temperature minimums, once the glue is spread on the wood it comes right up to room temperature.

Pouring the glue in a shallow pan after mixing keeps it spread out so the heat generated by the catalytic action doesnt start to build up as much.

Sincerely
