A local woodworking store recently made a large purchase of veneers that had been worked up by a firm that does executive aircraft interiors. Most of the pieces are 2' by 8' and are composed of exotic veneers from overseas or such things as birdseye maple, etc. The material is 3 ply veneer with a glue that is supposedly "non-solvent based" but rather water based. (Fire hazard on airplanes)
Question: These sheets have a very strong curving tendency when laying out on an open table. What would be a good backer when gluing these to 1/2, 5/8, or 3/4 inch particle board or MDF. I have considered the following:
1. Actually laying down 3 layers of a low quality backer veneer (alot of work)
2. Use a 1/8 inch plywood skin
3. Use the phenolic back that countertop makers use when they lay down plastic laminate
Any suggestions??
