A few questions after watching "Working in a Vacuum".

1) What type of glue did you use for the 2 ply veneer that was then layered over curved door/form? I assume it was a pva because of the needed flexibility.

2) What type wood structure would you make for the curved top and bottom parts of the door in the same example. I bought 1/2" resin impregnated honeycomb, and I need some solids at the top and bottom. If it were 3/4" honeycomb I quess I would use 2 pieces 3/8 bending ply, trim an inch piece for the top and bottom, then skin it along with the honeycomb with 1/8 bending ply. Do they make 1/2 bending ply? Or will I have to do solid wood laminations to get my 1/2 thickness. Thanks.

Gregg,

I used urea resin glue on that two ply. The radius wasn't that tight to cause a problem with the rigidity of the glue. If it had been a tighter radius and I still wanted to use urea glue I would have pressed the two ply first thing in the morning and then pressed that onto the curved panel last thing in the day. By then the glue is cured enough to bond the two ply but not so rigid as to be inflexible for bending.

In answer to your second question I would either use 1/8" bending ply for the curved edging pieces or a combination of 1/8", 3/8" and some veneer to arrive at exactly 1/2" which would match the honeycomb.
