I had to make a conference table and used a 10 mil paper backed curly maple veneer. I glued it down with Unibond 800(on 3/4" mdf) and put it in my vacuum bag for several hours and then took it out.All looked fine, the veneer was down dead flat with no problems. Then after two months I started noticing a million small checks parallel with the grain. The veneer is still down tight against the MDF but you can feel/see the checks in the grain.

So I am guessing that the veneer is moving on it's paper backing. Maybe I should have used a 2ply wood backed veneer. By the way each half of the table used a piece of veneer 4'wide by 5" long.

I appreciate any suggestions

Thanks
Steve

I have had the same exact problem with maple veneer. I put it in a previous post so that other people would be aware of the condition. I think it has something to do with the nature of maple veneer. Mine was not paper backed but solid maple. Also I veneered over birch ply.
