Hello all!
I veneered a piece of 5/32 plywood with 1/16" birdseye maple veneer on the show side. I used paper backed veneer on the back side. After a day in my shop it curled inward towards the show side(raw veneer). I used yellow glue. I think what happened is the maple veneer absorbed more moisture and swelled more than the paper backed. Thus causing the maple to pull more than the paper backed? Does this sound right or could there be other factors that I'm not thinking about? Fortunately it was a small piece and the application allowed for correction. Any advise on the use of these paper backed veneers would be great! Thanks,
Les

Les,

Its a combination of dissimilar materials at different thicknesses. Even if you use a different glue I think over time,(maybe not so quickly) you would get similar results.

If your using 1/16" resawn veneer for the front I suggest the same for the back, especially on such a thin panel. Doesn't need to be birdseye maple on the back just the same thickness.

Sincerely
