Subject : Veneer both sides - always?

I am veneering a 14" x 14" piece of 3/4" birch ply using solid wood veneer and PVA glue. This is high quality ply - I didn't count but it must have 9 layers or more. Do I really need to veneer the other side, which will not show? If ply alrady has multiple glued layers, what is adding one more going to do really on a piece that small and thick? Is there really a realsitic risk of warpage? I can do both sides, but I'm just curious how realistic the risk is in this situation.

Doug,
I know it doesn't make a lot of sense, but you still need to veneer the back of the panel. From what I've been told, when the substrate with multiple layers is made, it is glued and heat pressed together at the same time making it very stable. When you add a sheet of veneer to one side, it changes the balance of the substrate and makes it extremely prone to warpage. Unfortunately I found this out the hard way because I thought the same thing you are. It's just not worth the risk.
