Subject : Unibond for edge gluing

I want to edge glue some walnut to some 3/4 baltic birch, which will then be veneered with a 2 ply. I would like to make the walnut about 3 inches wide so that I can cut some curves on the edge. I am afraid that using pva for the edge gluing will allow the seam to ridge up and telegraph through after a while.
Should I use Unibond for the edge gluing ? I've always used it for veneering but never for "structural" application like this. Any special instruction or mixing ratios to recommend ?

Kelly,

You are correct about the effects of PVA glue in your situation. You want a no "cold creep" glue line.

Urea resin glues like Unibond 800 will give you the glue line you are looking for. My only recommendation is to have a sawn or sanded surface on the solid wood rather than a planed one. Unibond 800 likes some "tooth" in the gluing surface of solid wood for a good bond.

Sincerely
