I have a 60 year old cold molded boat that was made out of 5 layers
of 1/16" veneer. 20 years ago I replace the inside layer of veneer and
now it is time for a few reasons to do the outside. I need to take
the outside layer off and re-laminate some bad spots that go almost
all the way thru. When I did the work 20 years ago I used lots and
lots of staples and I still did not get 100% adherence. I am
thinking about vacuum bagging the outside layer. The boat is 17 feet long and 6 feet wide. Note I cannot glue up the whole boat at once and will

Peter,

Although this site is focused more on furniture work rather than boat laminating techniques I can say that doing your boat in sections can be done. Rather than putting your boat in a bag like furniture panels you will drape a plastic film over your project and seal it with a caulking tape. You will need a good sized vacuum pump to overcome the leaking you get using this technique. I recommend checking out Gougeon Brothers as boat work is their main focus. http://www.gougeon.com/
