O.K. lets try that again. I need to press some veneer to some half round pedestals that are constructed of laminated mdf that I have turned down to about a 4" radius. In my initial experiment I put the core in the press, flat side down, on top of a piece of 1/4" material that elevated it off the platen. the long grain of the veneer ran the length of the core, and I was careful not to overhang. I did not use any kind of caul. Drawing a vac, I got good pressure over most of the curve, with the exception of the area right along the flat face of the pedestal, along the platen. There I had a bit of "tenting" of the bag, and no pressure on the veneer. Any of you guys have experience in this sort of application? Thanks for your advice!!

You need to elevate the half-round more than that 1/4". I'd put the core on a piece of 3/4" mdf cut the same size. Be sure to tape or wax this elevator to keep glue from sticking. I would also use a caul. Bending plywood would do nicely. Let the caul extend below the core by about an eighth of an inch.
