Richard,
After full cure(within 24hrs)what you have two days later will be the same twenty years later. Because Unibond 800 is a catalytic glue once the chemical reaction is completed, its done, nothing changes after that. Although wiping a panel down with water is not what I recommend it appears there was no real damage.
Whenever I'm in doubt about the glue bond I wipe the veneered panel with water to see if there are any areas that may not have bonded properly. I wait a full 24 hrs before doing this to make sure the glue is completely cured. The water will attempt to swell the veneer, any areas that did not bond properly will bubble up.
So, lets say you do discover a bubble a year from now on this piece. It wouldn't be because the glue failed later on revealing a bubble, that bubble was always there, it just showed up when you had a humidity change. This humidity change just revealed what was already there. That's why I like wiping the veneered panel with water after pressing. It duplicates the humidity change scenario so there are no surprises later on. Just to add, I dont soak the panel just get it fully wet.
Sincerely
Darryl Keil
