I have a need to build four tops(29" x 104" x 1 1/8" thick and must support itself over a centered 48" drawer in a breakfront. If I make a panel and frame with...say doug fir frame and 3/4" glued in panels...could I veneer over this concoction with yorkite on both sides and then a one pc mahogany crotch top? How would you do this to be self supporting over the 4' drawer? thanks

John,

I'm not sure I'm clear on what your project looks like exactly but have you considered honeycomb has a core material? If you have a considerable overhang this material produces a lightweight surprisingly strong panel.

Sincerely
