What is the best way to cut 2 ply? Especially on a cylinder, when cutting the overlap which is 4 layers. I have used a veneer saw, but it takes forever. Utility knife works, but you still have to remove more material due to the overlap. Trying to make a good quality seam is very hard for me to do so far.
Also just cutting in general. I have problems cutting against the grain, with splintering. Any help would be appreciated!!

Mike,

I like the veneer cutter for the two ply on a cylinder. The veneer saw takes out too much material to get a good seam and a utility knife wanders to much for me. The veneer cutter has such a low angle blade that I never get any chipping or tearing. To finish the seam on a cylinder I use a block plane to back bevel the two ply until the seam is perfect.

For general veneer cutting I like a router with a flush trim bit in a clamping jig. Very rarely do I get any chip out.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil
