How are raised panels veneered? Can anyone point me to an article/book/video that discusses it?

Bob,

In general rasied panels are solid and not veneered. With that said, it can be done and you tend to see it on low grade furniture and cabinets, not on high quality work.

I dont know of any books or videos that discuss this but I can tell you a couple of methods. The main way its done, on a custom level is to frame the panel to be veneered with solid wood. Once this is done and flushed with the panel, you veneer it and then shape the edges where the solid is.

The other method is to shape the panel before veneering and then veneer the shaped area individually. Once that is done you veneer the main panel area.

You can also veneer the entire panel in one shot but the shaped area has to be very shallow with no step at the top. In my opinion this is not very attractive.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil
