Help!!!!!!!!! How much pressure is required to veneer radius pieces? 30" x 84" with a 10" cord on the long length. We are using paper backed Maple veneer. My people seem to think we need to build these incredible jigs to withstand max. pressure and it makes no sense to me. Thank you.

Chuck,

I dont know without seeing it if your shop folks are over building the forms. A general rule is ribs every 6" on center with two layers of 3/8" bending ply. Also the two exposed ribs on both ends need to have some vertical bracing between themselves and the next rib in. This braces against end pressure.

Although you could turn the pressure down some I would leave it at full vacuum. If you turned the pressure down until it cycled between 15 and 20HG instead of 20 to 25HG you might be able to move your ribs to every 8" on center but I cant say for sure without some testing. If you turn it way down so you can really decrease your bracing I would be concerned about good glue adhesion.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil
