i have had a 4X8 sheet of birdseye maple rolled up tight from the supplier for a year or more. it holds the curve very strong. i am concerned about the flattening solution with paper backed. i also find it very difficult to cut to dimension with the powerful curl. what is the best way to flatten?

Donald,

I have never had to flattened paper backed veneer so I can only offer thoughts to you. The glue used in paper backed veneer will not lossen with water, so you're OK on that account. If there is any way you could get it unrolled and placed under a sheet of plywood you should be able to flatten it to some extent, enough to use it. Leaving it under a sheet of plywood for a week or so should relax it without any water. I think you will be happier with this solution than going through the flattening process, provided you are not in a hurry to use it.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil
