I just flattened my first batch of veneer. It came out really well, except that I have a little bit of black newspaper ink that transferred to a few spots on the veneer. Should I worry about removing that now, or will it sand off pretty easily after the veneer is glued up? What's the best way to remove it?

Also, can someone discuss the pros and cons of the commercially available flatteners vs. homebrews? The commercial products I've seen are fairly expensive, but if they work a lot better...

the ink could stain pretty bad....and there's not a lot of room for sanding veneer. It probably depends upon how open grained the veneer, and how bad the ink penetrated.....

In the future, don't use paper with ink on it....a local craft store sells me blank newsprint super-cheap.

And I've never seen a difference between a commercial and homebrewed flattening solution, except price....
